Kanya Sumangala scheme for families with Rs 3 lakh or less annual income

Girls from families with Rs 3 lakh or less annual income will be given monetary assistance of Rs 15,000 in six phases, starting from birth till they pass out of school.
The Kanya Sumangala Yojana, under which UP government will provide this assistance, was announced in the 2019-20 budget.

The scheme will be implemented from April 1, 2019. The first instalment of Rs 2,000 will be deposited in the account of the child at birth. The second instalment of Rs 1,000 will be deposited when the girl gets her vaccination in the first year of birth. The next three instalments of Rs 2,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 3,000 will be deposited when the child takes admission in class I, class VI and class IX, respectively. The final instalment of Rs 5,000 will be released when the girl takes admission in a graduate course or two year diploma course after class XII.

The eligibility criteria for the scheme is that the family needs to belong to UP, for which they will have to produce documentary evidence like Aadhaar, ration card or voter card. A maximum of two children per family can receive this benefit while a family should also have a maximum of two children to be eligible. The government has set aside Rs 1,200 crore to cover the expenses of this scheme in 2019-20.
